Gerund Definition
A gerund is formed by adding–ing to a verb. It functions as a noun. The gerund is commonly used after quite a few different verbs.
The four types of gerunds and gerund phrases follow:
1. Subject
2. Direct Object
3. Object of Preposition
4. Subject Complement
For examples:
- Swimming is very good for the body.
- Smoking is prohibited in the hospital.
- Reading is relaxing.
- Writing is an exchange of ideas.
- My neighbors admire my gardening.
